Be Smoke Ready: Finding Information on Smoke When you Need It

When smoke becomes a problem, or is forecast to become a problem, in your neighborhood, you’ll want fast access to accurate information about that smoke. There are several good online resources to use.

  • ORCAA’s Website. Our air monitoring pages provide links to all our local air quality monitors. The site also contains detailed information regarding all aspects of local air pollution and clean air regulations. https://www.www.orcaa.org/air-quality/current-air-quality/
  • EPA/Airnow’s EnviroFlash Air quality alert tool. People can subscribe to text or email notifications of air quality alerts based around ‘official’ air quality monitors (including ORCAA’s AQ monitors). http://www.enviroflash.info/

  • EPA’s Fire and Smoke Map: This is a national map that includes not only all ‘official’ agency air quality monitoring stations but also the Purple Air personal air quality monitors https://fire.airnow.gov/
  • Washington Smoke Blog. This is the BEST source for up-to-date information on both wildfires and wildfire smoke events in the state. The site also provides forecast about potential events around the state. https://wasmoke.blogspot.com/

Beyond learning about when and where smoke events are occurring, you’ll want to know how to deal with the smoke when you do encounter it. For that the Washington Department of Health (DOH) provides great resources for protecting your health during smoke events.
