The Olympic Region Clean Air Agency (ORCAA) is preparing to enter a new era of cloud-based data management.
As a regulatory authority enforcing local, state, and federal clean air rules, ORCAA maintains detailed permitting and inspection files for more than 600 registered sources. These sources range from small gas stations to large wood processing facilities. ORCAA also manages outdoor burning permits, fields more than 650 burn complaints annually, and tracks a variety of other mission-critical information.
In the interest of improving business practices and maintaining secure and up-to-date records, ORCAA sought new database solutions through a detailed Request for Proposals (RFP) contracting process. After months of research and vendor evaluations, ORCAA has approved plans for a new database.
ORCAA’s Executive Director, Dr. Jeff Johnston, signed a contract on August 26 with Unicon International to provide a new cloud-based database solution for ORCAA. Unicon will make ORCAA-specific updates to their IMPACT (Inventory, Monitoring, Permitting, and Compliance Tracking) system. The new system will provide heightened security for the database records as well as better functionality for the agency and its business partners. For example, IMPACT is fully compliant with EPA’s Cross-Media Electronic Reporting Rule (CROMERR), meaning that it will be much easier for ORCAA to accept electronic submissions from its sources.
Unicon will work closely with ORCAA staff in the coming months to develop a customized version of their existing software solution for ORCAA.
