From the Office of the Mason County Fire Marshal:
Given the recent heat wave and predicted weather patterns for the near future, the National Fire Danger Rating System (NFDRS) for Mason County has been elevated from “Low” to “Moderate.”
In accordance with County policy and to be consistent with the Department of Natural Resources, Permitted Land Clearing and Residential Fires will be prohibited on all Mason County lands, effective 12:01 a.m. on Friday, June 19, 2026.
Please note that Recreational Fires (i.e., campfires, cooking, and pleasure fires in a concrete, rock, or steel ring) are still allowed but will also be restricted if and when the NFDRS is elevated to the “High” level.
