The Clallam County Fire Marshal announced that, effective October 1, 2026, the Clallam County burn ban will be lifted. This action allows for recreational fires and residential yard waste burns. The Pacific County Fire Marshal also announced that their county’s burn ban would be lifted as of October 1, 2026.
Thurston County has listed October 15 as the end date for the current fire safety burn ban. Grays Harbor, Jefferson, and Mason Counties generally rely on the Washington DNR’s fire danger rating for restrictions on outdoor burning. When DNR lists danger as Moderate or higher, those counties generally have burn restrictions in place. You can see the DNR fire risk ratings on the agency’s online map.
ORCAA also maintains a chart of current burn restrictions.
Burning in cities and urban growth areas (UGAs) is always restricted to just recreational fires under state law – no yard waste burning or land-clearing burning in those areas. Also keep in mind that the use of burn barrels is prohibited state-wide. And trash burning is always prohibited!
