Ban on recreational fires lifted in some counties

The fire officials in Clallam, Grays Harbor, Jefferson, and Mason Counties have modified their county-wide burn bans to permit small recreational campfires in established fire rings and the use of charcoal grills on private property and in campgrounds.

Campfires are limited to three feet in diameter and two feet in height. No other open burning of any kind is allowed until the counties’ primary burn bans are lifted.

The decisions to modify the burn bans were based on current rainfall and humidity conditions that have slightly eased the fire danger in western Washington. The DNR reduced the fire risk level for the central lowlands from high to moderate, which is the threshold used in the counties for allowing recreational campfires and charcoal grills.
