The Jefferson County Commissioners adopted a resolution last year to set an annual Fire Safety Burn Ban to run from July 1 through September 30 each summer. This resolution took effect last year and is applied annually. (June 17, 2024, meeting of Jefferson County Commissioners.)
The commissioners unanimously approved the rules change, making the seasonal burn ban an annual occurrence. And because wildfire danger is rated as HIGH, this year’s burn ban INCLUDES recreational fires (i.e., ‘campfires’).
Additionally, due to the extreme fire danger this year, Jefferson County is under a high fire danger declaration, which prohibits the sale and use of fireworks. The first offense is $1,000, and enforcement is performed by the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office.
