2001 ORCAA Annual Emissions Inventory

The ORCAA Annual Emission Inventory is a collaborative effort between ORCAA and the industrial or commercial businesses (sources) in its jurisdiction. ORCAA's jurisdiction includes Clallam, Jefferson, Grays Harbor, Mason, Pacific, and Thurston counties in the state of Washington. ORCAA collects emissions-related data from the larger sources on an annual basis.

The emissions links above lead to reports which provide the actual amounts of pollutants emitted from these large sources during specified calendar year. The reports do not include emissions from mobile sources (transportation), outdoor burning, small point sources, or small area sources (e.g. dry cleaners, gas stations, autobody shops). Pollutants are emitted through emission stacks or as fugitive emissions where no stack exists. Emissions of criteria pollutants (see definition below) are listed in tons per year. Emissions of toxic air pollutants (see definition below) are listed in pounds per year. Each report is sorted by city and business name.

Criteria Pollutants

Pollutant Name Formula or Symbol Comment
Particulate PM (Total Particulate)
PM-10 (Fine Particulate (<=10 microns))
PM 2.5 (Fine Particulate (<= 2.5 microns))
Particulate is listed by particle diameter
Sulfur Oxides SOX
SO2
-
Nitrogen Oxides NOX -
Volatile Organic Compounds VOC as Volatile Organic Compounds
VOC as Carbon
VOC as Total Hydrocarbon
VOC as Propane
VOC has several methods of measurement and expression
Carbon Monoxide CO -
Lead Lead -

Toxic Air Pollutants

Toxic air pollutants (TAP) are also listed in the report. They consist of trace elements and organic compounds. The trace elements are inorganic elements or compounds, usually released by the combustion of fuels. The trace elements are reported "as the element".

Some trace elements are also particulates and some organic TAPs are also VOCs. Therefore, these pollutants are listed twice in the emission inventory, as they are also included in the total criteria pollutant emissions. To avoid "double counting" do not add organic TAPs or trace elements to the criteria pollutant emission rates.

Green House Gases

For larger sources, the report includes emissions of carbon dioxide (CO2 in tons per year), methane (CH4 in pounds per year), and nitrous oxide (N2O pounds per year). For more information on Green House Gases see the EPA website: http://yosemite.epa.gov/oar/globalwarming.nsf/content/index.html.
