The Washgington Air Quality Advisory (WAQA) is a public health index created by the Washington state Department of Ecology in 2008. The WAQA is not an enforceable standard, rather it provides a categorical index for people to choose or schedule their outdoor activities. WAQA uses a color coded and qualitative index similar to the EPA recognized AQI. However, there are differences in the numerical break points that make the WAQA more stringent than the AQI.
